Turf managers and their associates from across the Northeast
Region were invited to help us welcome summer at University of
Massachusetts Turf Research Field Day on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. As
in the past, the event was held at the Joseph
Troll Turf Research Center on River Road in South Deerfield,
Massachusetts. Attendees received timely updates on ongoing
improvements to the Center, including new research plots and a
state-of-the-art rain-out shelter. |

Field Day 2009 focused on the research currently taking
place at the Joseph Troll Turf Research Center as well as on research
being conducted at other locations by University of Massachusetts
Turf Program faculty, staff, and graduate students. Attendees had the opportunity to
meet and speak with UMass researchers and to view projects
underway. Current research includes studies on the biology and
integrated management of turf-damaging insects, turfgrass pathology,
short- and long-term weed management, pesticide exposure, fertility,
drought management and wear tolerance along with a range of National
Turfgrass Evaluation Program turf variety trials. Field Day 2009 also featured a trade show with vendor displays and demonstrations. Pesticide recertification
contact hours were awarded for all New England states. |
