Date: June 15, 1998 Fusarium patch/pink snow mold is active and widespread in many areas because of the excessive rain and cool nights. It shows as small reddish and/or greasy spots, 1-4" in diameter, that appear suddenly. Mowing can streak the fungus across the turf similar to the spread of Pythium blight. The symptoms can be variable and confused with copper spot and Pythium root rot. Look for tiny tufts of pinkish white mycelium and spores on the surface of infected leaf blades before mowing. The disease can stay active as long as the nights remain cool and the wet weather continues. - Submitted by: Dr. Gail Schumann |
