Subject: Nematode Assays

The mild winter may contribute to higher counts of plant parasitic nematodes in putting greens this year, but not necessarily. We carried out two extensive assays during the last week of April. In one case populations were relatively low, and at another site, populations were alarmingly high. There were no obvious site-specific reasons for these differences. If you experienced high counts of nematodes last summer, you are advised to take an assay between mid-May and the first week in June. If counts are high, I will advise you to use Nemacur by mid-June.
