Subject: Turf Recovery

Turf disease problems should be greatly diminished by the return of cool weather and more normal rainfall. Rust, powdery mildew, red thread should all be present but probably not severe in lawns. Last week's gray leaf spot and brown patch on golf courses should be eliminated or greatly reduced with the cool night temperatures. This should be a good time for concentrating on good growing conditions for turf to aid recovery from the summer stresses and to develop good roots for winter survival. Fertilizers should be applied with care to avoid excessive succulent growth that will be susceptible to yellow patch (cool season brown patch) and leaf spots if we get a period of rainy weather.
