Subject: Environmental Stress

Rain (in some areas) and cooler temperatures have reduced the environmental stress, but turf is still showing stress symptoms where growing conditions are poor- too much traffic, compaction, low mowing heights, etc. Feeding by Hyperodes larvae can cause symptoms similar to disease on Poa annua, but the larvae should be easily visible in the root zone at this time. Take-all may be active in newly planted bentgrass especially where soil pH is high. Many lawns show drought symptoms because of inadequate water despire irrigation systems. It is important to water deeply, which can take a long time in the absence of rainfall. In general, fungal diseases have been uncommon because of the dry conditions.
