Subject: Red Thread, Leaf Spot/Melting-Out, Bacterial Wilt, Take-All, Anthracnose

Both hot weather and cool weather diseases were active at different times this week. When sending a sample to the diagnostic lab, it helps to note what the weather was like when the problem first developed- especially in years like this. The continuing moisture, no matter what the temperature, favors fungal activity.

BACTERIAL WILT was diagnosed at an another course this week, but, as with the others, the green was particularly wet and weak for other reasons. ANTHRACNOSE AND TAKE-ALL PATCH were also diagnosed on golf courses. In lawn and other higher turf, LEAF SPOT progressing into MELTING-0UT, CROWN, AND ROOT ROT is common, especially where recent nitrogen ferilization has been applied. RED THREAD continues to thrive.
