Category: Diseases Subject: Gray Snow Mold
Gray snow mold on lawns is everywhere this year due to the long period
of snow cover. The good news is that the fungus that causes this disease
is no longer active after the snow cover is gone. The fungus usually only
infects the leaf blades, so most gray snow mold areas recover once the
grass begins to grow. If the affected area is matted, rake it gently to
allow regrowth of the grass. Fungicides are ineffective at this time.
Early fertilizer applications favor leaf spot and melting-out, so it is
best to wait until warmer, drier weather develops. In areas that do not
recover to an acceptable appearance, add a little grass seed to help fill
them in.
