Subject: Red Thread, Yellow Patch, Dollar Spot

Fungal diseases have been relatively minor over the past week. The weather has been cool and dry and favorable for turf growth. RED THREAD became quite active in some lawns during the extended rain last week, but this week's dry air should help the turf outgrowth the fungus unless the fertility is very low or the soil is very compacted. YELLOW PATCH (cool-season brown patch) was seen on some golf courses, especially where fertility was high in the wet weather. Again, this disease should disappear without treatment or sustained injury. The temperatures are approaching normal in the coming week, so some of the early summer diseases, such as DOLLAR SPOT, might begin to develop.
