Subject: Nematicide Applications

Plant parasitic nematodes have been feeding on grass roots for at least one month and the populations will begin to increase. If you believe you had nematode problems last year, or you have a history of relatively high populations, it is time to schedule a check up. We have already seen high populations of nematodes this year but it would be best to wait until the end of May to make an assessment. Mid-June is probably the best time to apply nematicide. If you apply too early, you may not have protection through the stressful period of late July-August. A mid-June application will suppress nematodes through August.
