Subject: Leaf Spot/Melting Out, Red Thread, Fusarium Patch

The continued cool, wet weather will certainly encourage fungal activity. On lawns, this is likely to result in leaf spot/melting-out or red thread. On golf courses, Fusarium patch (pink snow mold) is likely to pop up as small greasy, coppery spots. If you are not sure about the diagnosis, try putting a plug into a plastic bag with a moist paper towel overnight. The fungus should appear as a white to pink fringe of active fungal growth around the edge of the spots.
