Subject: Snow Mold Control

Research at UMass over the past several years suggests that there is a greater "window of opportunity" for putting out a single fungicide application for snow mold control. We have a lot of new penetrant (systemic) chemicals available. It is best to wait until top growth has stopped (i.e. after the last mowing), but the leaves are still green and capable of absorbing the fungicides. There are also many successful combinations that can be used. Choose fungicides from two different chemical groups, and one should be a penetrant (systemic). Finally, it pays to take a little more time and use a sufficient water volume- 2-2.5 gal/1000 sq. ft. We have research results from last year's UMass trial as well as results from superintendents who tested various combinations with at various application times on their golf courses. A summary of past studies is also available. If you would like a copy of these results by email, please contact me at gail.schumann@marquette.edu

I will be out of town over the weekend, but will respond to any messages on Monday, October 20 if I don't get them before I leave.
